Mom.

So those that are Facebook friends know that I  had a status that asked you to send vibes to Boston but not just for the Red Sox.

While the Sox no doubt need good vibes, those that I requested from you are for my Mom. And, well, she needs them, too.

Mom had bypass surgery in January. Major surgery, but given her history of heart condition, and some recent episodes, it was the right decision. I firmly believe that.

However, we’ve been dealing with some complications — the most recent of which came up Easter Sunday. After having dinner at our house, Mom was back home. She had some pain, so my sister took her to the local hospital. She was admitted.

Rest of Sunday was OK and Monday was so-so. Tuesday, however, was a different story. She was in a great deal of pain, especially an incident after dinner. Nobody really knew what was causing any of this to happen.

Wednesday morning, she was on her way back to Boston — to where the bypass was done.

Why? Well, that pain incident Tuesday night? It was a (very small) heart attack caused by another blockage.

I went to Boston Wednesday night and she was in good spirits — awaiting a test on Thursday that would help determine the blockage area and the course of treatment — either an angioplasty or a stent.

Well, the test didn’t go so well today. Turns out the blockage is the result of a failed graft during her bypass. In one area, they used a vein from her leg to make the bypass. That, essentially, has failed (10% of them do). Failed to the point that it can’t be fixed with a procedure — only, hopefully, with medicine.

So, Mom is there. And I’m here. And that sucks. My brother was up there today. And I’m probably going up tomorrow. My sister is sick, and it’s killing her not to be there — but she can’t bring a cold onto the floor.

I’m most likely going up tomorrow to hopefully talk to the attending physician — and the one who did the procedure today. We’ve only talked to the resident and the intern. And the nurses. All have been great. Just want to talk to the main doctor. So that’s going to be my goal in the morning.

In the meantime, vibes for Mom. Please.

We don’t know what this means. Honestly. Have no clue. Could be something people live with all the time. Could be something that’s more of a challenge.

Either way, we’ll deal with it. And we’ll deal with it the best we can.

That’s what we do.

It’s what we have to do.

Even if we’re scared. A little.

Or, well, in my case, a lot.
